Our TB Testing Services

We offer two types of TB testing to meet different requirements and medical needs. The PPD skin test (tuberculin skin test) involves a small injection under the skin that must be read 48-72 hours later. TB blood tests (IGRA/QuantiFERON-TB Gold) require only a single visit with results available within a few days. Our providers will help you determine which test is appropriate based on your specific requirements, vaccination history, and medical background.

Understanding Your Results

For PPD skin tests, you must return within 48-72 hours to have the test read by a medical provider. A negative result means no significant reaction at the injection site. A positive PPD result does not necessarily mean active TB disease—it indicates exposure to TB bacteria. If your result is positive, our provider will evaluate you for symptoms and likely order a chest X-ray to rule out active tuberculosis. Most positive PPD results indicate latent TB infection, which is not contagious but may require treatment to prevent future disease. We provide referrals and documentation for any follow-up care needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment for TB testing?

No appointment is necessary for TB test placement. Walk in to either our Palm Beach Gardens or Stuart location during regular hours (8am-8pm daily). For PPD skin tests, you will need to return within 48-72 hours to have the test read.

What is the difference between a PPD skin test and TB blood test?

The PPD skin test requires two visits—one to place the test and another 48-72 hours later to read the result. TB blood tests (QuantiFERON-TB Gold) require only a single visit with results in a few days. Blood tests are preferred for people who have received the BCG vaccine, as they have fewer false positives.

How long does it take to get TB test results?

PPD skin tests are read 48-72 hours after placement with immediate results at that visit. TB blood test results are typically available within 2-4 business days.

Can you provide official TB test documentation for my employer?

Yes, we provide official documentation of your TB test results that is accepted by employers, schools, immigration offices, and healthcare facilities. Let us know what forms you need during your visit.

What happens if my TB test is positive?

A positive TB test indicates exposure to TB bacteria but does not mean you have active TB disease. Our provider will evaluate you for symptoms and typically order a chest X-ray to check for active tuberculosis. Most positive results indicate latent TB infection, which requires treatment to prevent future disease but is not currently contagious.

I had the BCG vaccine - which TB test should I get?

If you received the BCG vaccine (common in many countries outside the US), we recommend the TB blood test (QuantiFERON-TB Gold) instead of the PPD skin test. The blood test is not affected by prior BCG vaccination and provides more accurate results.

How much does TB testing cost?

We accept most major insurance plans that cover TB testing. Self-pay pricing is also available. Contact our office or visit for current pricing information.
